# What is Lid

What Lid is, who it is for, the four steps from create to get paid, and what you can sell today.

Lid is the suite for digital businesses: run, monetize, and distribute your business in one place. You create a product, you share a link, and you are paid in seconds when someone buys.

Anyone else can share your link too. When their share leads to a sale, they earn a commission you set, from 1% to 50%.

## Who it's for

Anyone who sells digital things to an audience: a community, an agency, a school, a creator with a team, or one creator on their own. Also anyone with an audience who wants to earn by sharing what others make.

## The four steps

| Step         | What happens                                                                                                                      |
| ------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Create** | Set up your product in minutes. |
| **Share** | Post your link. Anyone can share it too. |
| **Sell** | Someone buys through any of those links. |
| **Get paid** | You are paid in seconds, in digital dollars. Whoever shared has their commission assigned in the same transaction, and claims it. |

## What makes Lid different

* Everything in one place: store, courses, memberships, challenges, campaigns, share links and your own site (we switch it on per account). The whole stack, flat 3%.
* Anyone can share your product and earn. No applications, no approvals.
* The sale, the split and the payout are one transaction. You are paid in seconds, a sharer's commission is assigned to them in that same transaction, and Lid never holds your money.
* The fee is a flat 3% per sale. $0 a month to sell.
* You never handle anything technical. An email is enough.
* You focus on your business. Lida helps with the rest: she answers your questions, drafts your products and reads your sales; where the Builder is switched on, she builds your site.

AI agents can create and read on Lid too. If that means nothing to you, you can ignore it. If it does, start at [Agents on Lid](/agents.md).

## What you can sell today

Digital products, courses and memberships. You can also run challenges with prizes, reward campaigns, and share links that pay commission, and put it all on [your own site](/sell-on-lid/your-own-site.md), where we switch it on for your account. Services with protected payments are being built.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.lid.pro/start-here/what-is-lid.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
