# Where the money goes

Where the money goes on each sale: seller, sharer, Lid's 3%, with a $10 example. The seller is paid in seconds; the sharer's commission is assigned in the same transaction, in digital dollars (USDC).

Here is where the money goes on each sale and when it arrives.

## What happens when someone buys

1. The buyer pays.
2. The payment splits automatically: the seller's share, your commission, and Lid's 3% fee. It is one transaction.
3. Your commission is assigned to you in that transaction, in digital dollars (USDC), and only you can claim it.
4. You see it in **Earnings & analytics → Affiliates**, under **Affiliate commissions**, ready to withdraw.
5. Your dashboard lists every payout with the date, product, sale amount, and your cut.

## A worked example

A $10 sale with a 10% commission splits like this:

![How a $10 sale splits on Lid with a 10% commission: $8.70 to the seller, paid in seconds; $1.00 to the sharer, assigned to them to claim; $0.30 to Lid, the flat 3% fee.](https://1004546140-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FQKVT6WDKWT4P06WmWa57%2Fuploads%2Fj7aoUEVuXcd3J0tN1S5N%2Fmoney-split-10-dollar-sale.png?alt=media)

| Who    | Gets  |
| ------ | ----- |
| Seller | $8.70 |
| You    | $1.00 |
| Lid    | $0.30 |

{% hint style="info" %}
Your commission is locked in when the buyer pays. The rate shown at the moment of sale is the rate you receive.
{% endhint %}

## Common questions

<details>

<summary>Is there a minimum payout or a waiting period?</summary>

There is no payout day. Your commission is assigned in full in the same transaction as the sale, whatever the amount, and stays yours until you withdraw it. If the seller set a refund window, the whole payment waits until the window ends, and the split happens then.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What if the sale is refunded?</summary>

Some sellers offer a refund window. If a purchase is refunded, the commission for that sale is returned with it. Each seller's policy is on the product page.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What about taxes?</summary>

Lid does not withhold taxes. Commissions are your income, and reporting them is your responsibility.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.lid.pro/earn-by-sharing/splits-and-payouts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
